The Native American Indians attributed different healing properties to different
stones and plants. The Medicine Man or Shaman always carried their medicine with
them. Healing objects were placed in a bag or bundle along with other sacred items
and worn around the neck. This way the power of the objects were next to their body
giving them their personal strength Their Medicine bag was always in a place of honor.
A youth will start out with a small bag but as he grew and added his own objects and
medicine his bag might have to be replaced with bigger ones over the years. Some
things that might be in ones bag could be items for vision quest, bones, hair, roots,
leaves and feathers. Whatever medicine that brings one closer to their creator.
